BAT AND BALL: INDOOR CRICKET LEAGUE
Indoor cricket is played between 2 teams of 6 players. Each player can bowl a maximum of 3 overs and will bat in a partnership for 4 overs. An innings lasts for 12 overs.
BASIC RULES OF THE LEAGUE:
6 players in a team.
Each innings consists of 12 six ball overs. Every ball counts including a wide or no ball.
A Bowler can only bowl a maximum of 3 overs in an innings.
The choice of innings is decided by a toss, which should be completed by team captains 5 minutes before your scheduled start time. If your team is late, the toss will be forfeited to the other team. If the minimum of 4 players is not ready by the start time of the match, the late team will have 1 over cut for every 2 minutes they are late.
There will be a maximum of 5 minutes in between each innings.
Winning teams will be decided by which team scores the most runs in their innings.
In the case of a side batting second exceeding the run total of the side batting first, that side shall continue to bat for the remainder of their innings (that is, for 12 overs).
The fielding team will be made up of 6 players at a time however substitutes can be used for injury only, when allowed by the Umpire.
BATTING:
Batters will bat in pairs for 4 overs.
All wickets carry a 5 run penalty. Any runs scored before the out will be canceled out. At the fall of a wicket, the batter who was not dismissed shall take the strike, with the batters changing ends if necessary. A batter shall continue to bat for 4 overs, even if dismissed.
Scoring in indoor cricket is split into 2 areas: physical runs and bonus runs. Physical runs are scored by both batsmen completing a run from one crease to the other. Bonus runs are scored when the ball hits a net. Bonus scores for particular parts of the nets follow: For bonus runs to be scored, at least one physical run must be scored. The bonus runs are then added to the physical runs.
Zone A (front net – behind the keeper): 0 runs
Zone B (side nets between the striker's end and halfway down the pitch): 1
Zone C (side nets between halfway and the bowlers end): 2 runs
Zone D (back/boundary net – behind the bowler): 4 or 6 runs depending on the manner in which the ball hits the back net. On the bounce: 4 runs On the full: 6 runs. If the ball hits the ceiling prior to hitting the back net, it will still count as 4 or 6.
Even if a fielder touches the ball before it hits the net, it still counts towards the runs.
The LBW dismissal will not be a valid wicket. If the ball hits the batsmens leg or any part of the body, the ball will be dead. You may not run on leg byes. Hands are considered part of the bat, forearms are considered part of the body.
A player can also be "caught" by a ball rebounding off a net, except off a "six", as long as it has not previously touched the ground. This negates any physical or bonus runs that might have been awarded. Catches can be made off the ceiling and side nets. Catches cannot be made off the back/boundary nets (4 or 6) or from the 0 zone nets around the keeper.
You may hit a No Ball. If you score runs on a No Ball, the +2 runs for the No Ball will be added to the score. Ball is always considered live, you can be stumped or run out on a No Ball. You cannot be Caught or Bowled Out on a No Ball.
You may run on wides for score in addition to the +2 points received for the wide.
A batsman dismissed off a "Wide" or “No Ball” will be penalized the standard 5 runs, as for any wicket lost. The 2 run bonus for the wide or no ball is canceled-out by the dismissal.
BOWLING:
Maximum of 3 overs per bowler (which cannot be consecutive).
Wides – Umpires will be strict on the off side and all balls that pass the batsman on the leg side will be called “wide”.
A team can only have 2 fielders in each half of the field (front/back half) not including the bowler and wicket keeper.
A wicket keeper can only leave their area after the ball has been hit.
No balls will be called for:
all balls that reach the batter on the full over waist height, and
all balls bounced above shoulder height.
The ball is thrown, not bowled. No chucking. One warning after the first offense, bowler will not be allowed to bowl after the second offense.
Any part of the bowler's front foot is not grounded inside the return crease and behind the popping crease at the moment of delivery.
There are more than 2 fielders in either half of the court at the commencement of the bowler's run up.
The wicket keeper moves outside the 'keeper's designated area before the ball is hit or swung at.
2 runs will be awarded to the batting team for all wides and no balls. Wides and no balls shall count in the over, subject to the rules below:
If, in the Umpire’s opinion, a player deliberately bowls a no ball, leg side or wide at any stage of the game with intent to limit the batting sides run scoring opportunity, the Umpire may ask for the ball to be re-bowled whilst awarding two runs to the batsman. A warning to the bowler may or may not be given at the Umpire’s discretion.
Wides and no balls may only be rebowled at batsmen's request in the final over of partnership only for balls that occurred in that last over.
DEAD BALL There are several situations where a call of Dead Ball is called for.
Balls caught in the net and affected the way the ball would have played naturally.
"Discretionary" Dead Balls.
In these particular situations, the decision to have the ball rebowled or to allow runs scored or to apply penalties for wickets taken will be at the discretion of the umpire - injury etc.
FIELDING:
Catches can be made off the ceiling and side nets. Catches cannot be made off the back/boundary nets (4 or 6) or from the 0 zone nets around the keeper.
